Lennox
The Long Glasgow Kiss
The Deep Dark Sleep
by Craig Russell

Lennox is basically Jack Reacher and Myron Bolitar, mixed together. (If you don’t know Myron Bolitar, I highly recommend Harlan Coben’s entire oeuvre. If you don’t know Jack Reacher, have you been living in a cave for the last 10 years?) Lennox is Canadian, he’s fought his way through the Second World War, and he’s a pretty complex and violent guy. These are pretty violent books. The series is set in Glasgow, in the 1950’s. There’s a lot of detail about both world wars, and the experiences of ordinary people who lived through them. The best thing about these books is that they are all show, and no tell, which is what I most love in a book. You watch the characters, but you don’t get told what they thought. It’s the art of story telling, laid bare. But these books are also stuffed with context, history and fascinating details, in just the right amounts. That’s what I’m reading.

How about you?
